Barre or hot Pilates? Choosing your next mat class in Exeter

in Oct 23, 2026

Looking at the timetable and wondering whether to choose Barre Balance or hot Pilates? Both belong to our mat offering at Radiant in Woodbury, near Exeter and Exmouth, but they bring a different feel to your studio time. Here is how to choose without needing to know every class name first.

What is Barre Balance?

Barre Balance brings together Pilates-inspired movement and barre work. Expect controlled repetitions, standing exercises and attention to how you move, rather than a dance routine to learn. You do not need a ballet background to be curious about barre.

It is an option to explore if you enjoy a class with standing work and a different rhythm from your usual reformer session. Read our Barre Balance guide for Exeter, then check the live timetable for the current session description and availability.

What is Mat Method HOT?

Our hot Pilates classes take place in the infrared mat studio. Expect a stronger, flowing mat session in a heated setting. Choose it because you want that class experience, rather than using how much you sweat to judge how well you have moved.

Our current hot Pilates class description recommends attending at least one Sculpt or Strong class before joining HOT. That gives you a chance to become familiar with the movement and teaching before adding the heated class to your routine. Find out more on our hot Pilates in Exeter page.

Which class should I book first?

Start with your experience and preferences. If you are new to mat Pilates, contact the Exeter team and tell us what you have tried before. We can help you understand the current timetable and class descriptions. If you already enjoy Sculpt or Strong and want to explore a heated class, read the HOT description before choosing your session.

There is no need to commit to one style forever. Some people enjoy a familiar weekly class; others like to explore the different formats on the timetable. For reformer beginners, our beginner guide explains why we recommend Mindful Motion as a starting point.

Where are the classes?

Radiant's Exeter mat studio is in Unit 5 at Woodbury Business Park. Our reformer studio and Reset suite are across the courtyard at Unit 11A, so check which space your booking uses. You can find studio addresses and parking information here.
